 Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 7pm (Cronkhite Lecture Series): Paul McCarty will give a presentation on the "Washington County Fair in Fort Edward" at the Fort Edward Art Center, 83 Broadway. The Fair was originally held at the fairgrounds in Fort Edward from 1872-1933.

April 27 & 29, Sunday and Tuesday, Fort Edward Art Center Student Art Show & Senior Scholarship Competition Exhibit by area students at 83 Broadway. Public welcome, FREE Admission. Reception, April 27, 7:00 pm, public exhibit, 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 7pm (Cronkhite Lecture Series): "Millerites in Washington County" by ACC Professor Dr. Charles Bailey at the WCHS Wing-Northup House, 167 Broadway, Fort Edward. William Miller led his followers, who often have been termed as "Millerites," at the beginning of the Adventist movement of the 1830's and 1840's in North America.

 

 Wednesday, May 7, 2008, 7pm (Cronkhite Lecture Series) at the Fort Edward Arts Center, 83 Broadway, Fort Edward: "Concerts, Clowns, Comedy & Communities at the Opera House" by Ann Satterthwaite. This program will relate the role of opera houses in community life in the late 19th century through today.

May 23, Friday 7 pm, Walking Tour of Union Cemetery. Join R. Paul McCarty on an informative walking tour of Union Cemetery and its local inhabitants. Start in central section, north from main gate to King Monument. Voluntary contribution collected for preservation of Union Cemetery Iron Fence.

May 29, Thursday, 5 pm, Riverside Schoolhouse Awards Ceremony and Reception for Outstanding Retired Area Educators. Public Welcome. Individuals $12.00 - Couples $20.00

Thursday, June 12, 7:30pm (Hebron Preservation Series) at the Presbyterian Church, Rte. 22, East Hebron: Regional Handwork - "From Necessities to Fine;" crafting fabrics and display pieces from 1800 to 1940 by Joyce St. Jacques.

June 27 & 28, Friday & Saturday, Old Fort House Museum Celebration of Heritage Days. June 28,9 am - 4 pm, garage, book & estate sale. Old Fort House 1-5 pm. FREE ADMISSION with proof of Fort Edward Residency.

Thursday, July 10, 7:30pm (Hebron Preservation Series) at the Presbyterian Church, Rte. 22, East Hebron: Bob Henke, current Argyle Town Supervisor and writer of a regular outdoors column in the Post Star, will speak on historic aspects of  wildlife in Washington County.  As an observer, writer, and former DEC Officer, he will be sharing “tales to tell” on wildlife and the  environment.

July 12, Saturday, Founder's Day - Tribute to Duncan Campbell who died in Fort Edward in 1758 from wounds suffered in the Battle of Ticonderoga. 11: am Union Cemetery, new monument dedication. 12 pm Luncheon- Summer Buffet with local specialties and special dessert provided by Anvil Restaurant, a Fort Edward tradition, cranberry bread pudding - $12.00 non-members, $10.00 members of FEHA and WCHS with current membership card. Call for reservations 747-9700 or 747-3514. During luncheon, special presentation to David R. Starbuck, recipient of the James R. Cronkhite Award being given by WCHS.

July 26, Saturday, Annual Country Fair & Antique Auction. Arts & Crafts, Antiques & Collectibles, Vendors, Books, Plants & Garage Sale. The museum gift shop will be open. Lunch and refreshments available, and tours of the museum campus. Auction begins at 10:00 am (preview 9 am).

Thursday, Aug. 14, 7pm: Visit the Hartford Museum and Civil War Enlistment Center on Main St., Hartford, NY with host Peter Swano.

Friday, Sept. 5, 7:30 p.m. - Traditional & Historical Songs of New York State

A concert sponsored by the WCHS, and performed by Dave Ruch at the Little Theater on the Farm, 27 Plum Road, Fort Edward.

Musician and storyteller Dave Ruch has a special knack for performing songs of real New Yorkers from days gone by, and weaving the songs into the stories behind them - stories of farmers, lumbermen, children, immigrants, Native Americans, cannallers and more.
The program is free and open to the general public and is funded by the New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The theater doors open at 7:30, the performance begins at 8 p.m. Come enjoy some refreshments before the performance and take a stroll through this authentic 19th century barn.

Thursday, Sept. 11, 7:30pm (Hebron Preservation Series) at the Presbyterian Church, Rte. 22, East Hebron: "Celebrating Local Bounty," a discussion of local foods currently produced, marketed, used locally and beyond, by Annette Nielsen.

 Thursday, Oct. 9, 7:30pm (Hebron Preservation Series) at the Presbyterian Church, Rte. 22, East Hebron: "18th Century Winters" based on diaries and journals, by Paul Loding
